In order to assist anyone negatively affected by the COVID-19 due to office closures, I am providing further information to assist you in applying for EI benefits should you wish to do so to receive payment from Service Canada.
If your office is closed temporarily and you do not have any time banks to withdraw from?
Call your Manager to request a Record of Employment from payroll.
How do I start my EI Claim?
You can initiate your EI Claim online through Service Canada. You must do your claim online through the Service Canada website:

When applying click on Regular Benefits – On your form that we submit we will state shortage of work due to office closure related to COVID
Do I need a paper Record of Employment to Start My EI Claim?
No, the Record of Employment must be filed electronically by payroll. This is sent at the end of each pay period per government regulations.
What type of benefits am I applying for?
Eligible workers can apply online for Regular EI benefits. This will classify as a shortage of work due to the Coronavirus outbreak
What happens if I am called into work during this shortage of work?
Just report the hours you work once Service Canada starts your claim on the information sheet provided online.
How long will it be before I receive my first cheque?
That will vary as Service Canada is dealing with numerous requests. Everything will be backdated in their system to ensure you receive payment for time lost.
How much will I receive from EI sick leave?
The current EI payment is 55% of your earnings up to a maximum of $573 a week.
